News: Transview building being torn down

The Transview building at Schiphol is being torn down. Its brown façade is now a thing of the past, and the building is being torn down at a rate of two floors per week. Demolition works must be completed by the end of February and it will become a vacant lot. That way, there will be room for essential cable and pipes to be laid for the new pier and terminal.

Dust and asbestos-free

Asbestos was found in the joinery of the façade, which posed a challenge during Transview’s demolition. The construction zone temporarily became a restricted area, and there were strict requirements for remediation. Thankfully, that is all behind us now. All asbestos has been safely removed, so that any debris now released during the demolition works will not be contaminated. As an extra precaution, tarps will be used on the scaffolding and the demolition crane, and the latter will be fitted with a sprinkler system. That way, there will be maximal protection against dust.

From roof to foundation

Transview’s demolition will be top down, from the roof to its foundation. Right now, scaffolding has been placed around the building to keep the area safe when its concrete shell is demolished. This has to be done quickly, because the demolition crane will arrive on February 2nd. If the weather allows work to continue uninterruptedly, then the entire building will have been torn down by the end of February – from roof to foundation.
