Are you travelling to Schiphol with a non‑EU passport? You will then be registered in the European Entry/Exit System when you cross the European border. This digital registration replaces the stamp in your passport.

The EES serves as a digital database of the arrival and departure dates of non-EU nationals travelling to Europe for short stays of maximum 90 days within a 180-day period. The government stores your biometric data (facial photo and fingerprints) and data from your travel documents in this database.
EES at Schiphol: What to Expect?
EES registration has been mandatory since 10 April 2026.
Do you hold a non‑EU passport? Upon arrival at Schiphol, please follow the signs for non‑EU travellers. These will automatically lead you to an EES registration kiosk or to a border desk operated by the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee.
In all cases, your passport will be registered in the central EES system. At Schiphol, however, a scan of your face and your fingerprints is not yet always recorded.
Do I need to register?
You need to register yourself in the European Entry/Exit System (EES) if you are travelling from outside Europe with your non-EU passport, and your stay in Europe will be less than 3 months. Once registered in the EES, your registration applies to all European borders, Schiphol included. Please find more information about the EES registration here.
Future trips to Europe via Schiphol
Once you are registered, your fingerprints and a photograph of your face will be stored in the EES database. So if you travel to Schiphol again in the future, the government will only need to verify your biometric data and register your date of arrival or departure. The EES registration is valid for up to three years or until the passport expires.. If you get a new passport, you need to register your biometric data (facial photo and fingerprints) again at the EES kiosk.
