Schiphol VIP service: Sustainability

At Schiphol VIP service, we always look for partners who know that sustainability is important - just like we do. That’s why we collaborate with partners like the Lamme Textile Management and Marie-Stella-Maris. But we also think sustainably when it comes to Food & Beverage services. In addition to providing tasty and healthy drinks and meals, our partner Vermaat is actively engaged in preventing food waste. And how about transport to and from your plane? Our hybrid Audis drop you off and pick you up as comfortably as they do sustainably.

Vermaat

Our Food & Beverage partner makes sustainability a priority. As much as possible, Vermaat uses (seasonal) products that are made in the Netherlands. Vermaat also works with Orbisk products. With their equipment, they automatically measure and recognise what kind of food is thrown away, in what quantity and at what time of day. This allows them to decide, for example, to serve certain dishes in smaller portions.

Together, we make sure everything is recycled appropriately. Think, here, of orange peels: they are used in the hand soap at Schiphol. Vermaat wants guests to enjoy food and drink responsibly every day. That is why they look carefully at what they put on the table, and where it comes from. With a responsibly sourced range, they transform the food chain, reduce their footprint and encourage fair trade.

Vermaat's long-term goal is net zero by 2045.

Audi

We also work as sustainably as possible when we transport guests from the plane to the VIP centre and vice versa. For years, we have driven hybrid Audi A8Ls – exclusively in electric mode – to transport our guests. These models feature advanced plug-in hybrid technology. This means that journeys to and from the aircraft on the apron are fully electric and are made in complete silence, contributing to Schiphol's sustainable ambitions.

According to Audi (Only in Dutch), electric mobility is the key to more sustainable mobility worldwide. The plan is to continuously expand their fleet of electric vehicles. From 2026 onwards, Audi will begin to launch only fully electric models. Audi thus aims to offer at least one electric vehicle in all core segments by 2027. The roadmap to electrification also includes phasing out the production of internal combustion engine vehicles by 2033.

Lamme Textile Management

Lamme Textile Management

Lamme supplies our linens, such as towels in the restrooms and shower room, plus bedding. Lamme’s entire supply chain – from picking the cotton to weaving the materials – is managed sustainably.

In addition, Lamme (only in Dutch) reuses their waste water and continuously invests in more energy-efficient washing techniques. So Lamme takes good care of the environment, but also has a social heart: in fact, they offer meaningful work to people distanced from the labour market.

Marie-Stella-Maris

Marie-Stella-Maris is a Dutch social-impact brand with a rich range of natural bodycare essentials and luxury home perfumes in unique scents. All bodycare products consist of at least 96% ingredients of natural origin, are free of parabens and silicones and are also 100% vegan. The products are refillable with sustainable refill packs or at the Refill Bar in the Store & Refill Stations.

With the mission ‘Clean water & hygiene for all', Marie-Stella-Maris structurally donates part of its sales to sustainable water projects. Since 2011, together with its customers and partners, the social-impact brand has already been able to contribute more than €2.1 million, providing more than 100,000 people with clean (drinking) water!
