Privacy statement for fall detection on ramps

Schiphol Nederland B.V. (‘Schiphol’) attaches great value to protecting your privacy. In this privacy statement, we explain how we handle the personal data that we process through the fall detection system installed on ramps at Schiphol.

Which personal data do we process?

For the safety of our visitors and employees, we are running a pilot to test a fall detection system on the ramp. The system involves processing the following data:

  • Video footage
  • Movement patterns: the AI cameras analyse movement patterns in order to detect falls.
  • Time and location data: the exact time and place where the images were recorded can also be viewed as personal data, especially when combined with the video footage.
  • Fall detection data: if a fall is detected, specific data is retained about that incident, such as the time of the fall, the location on the ramp, and any actions undertaken by those involved.

Which personal data do we process?

Safety and assistance
The data collected is used to ensure safety at Schiphol Airport. In the event of an incident, the data enables us to respond quickly and to provide assistance where necessary.

Improvements to our ramps
The data helps us to identify potentially dangerous situations and take measures to prevent future incidents.

How long will we retain your data?

We do not retain the vast majority of data for longer than four weeks.
Only footage of accidents on the ramp is retained for eight weeks in order to improve detection.

Who do we share your personal data with?

We only share the data with relevant internal departments and, if necessary, with the emergency services and legal authorities.

What rights do you have?

You are entitled to access, amend and delete your personal data
You have the right to know what personal data concerning you has been processed by Schiphol. If we have not obtained the data directly from you, you also have the right to know from what source the data has been derived and are entitled to a copy of the data.

If data concerning you is inaccurate, you can ask us to amend that data. You can also request us to delete personal data and to stop using it.

Restriction of processing and the right to transfer your data
If, in your opinion, we are not processing your data correctly, you can request a restriction on its use.

You can also ask us to transfer your digital personal data to you or to another party in a readable and usable form.

Submitting an objection
Asking us to delete your data or restrict its use are not your only options. You can also submit an objection to the processing of personal data by Schiphol. You can do this if, firstly, you do not agree to Schiphol using your personal data for direct marketing.

Secondly, you can object to the use of your personal data on the basis of your specific situation. If you submit an objection, in principle we will temporarily discontinue or restrict the processing of that data. If your objection is accepted, we will definitively discontinue or restrict the processing of your data.
