For example, perfumes and cosmetics are on average 25% cheaper than in Dutch high street stores. How does it work? We’re happy to explain.
How it works
Every month, retailer Lagardère Travel Retail compares prices with a fixed group of well-known Dutch retailers. For fragrances and cosmetics, they compare their prices with the prices of the same products at ICI Paris XL, Douglas and de Bijenkorf. For liquor, they compare their prices with those of the same products at Gall & Gall and Albert Heijn. They take the average of all those prices (excluding promotions and special offers) to calculate your savings. They make these comparisons and updates every month.
That means your favorite fragrance might cost €100 in a regular store, but only €75 at Today Duty Free. Want to grab a good bottle of whiskey on your way to visit family? You could save around €10 at Schiphol.
There are a few exceptions within the store’s assortment for example, tobacco products, which are subject to legal regulations. Confectionery is also an exception, as the range in this category differs from what is typically sold on the local market.

They compare the range of products with Dutch retailers every month to ensure they can deliver on this price promise.
Today Duty Free prices vs. tax-free shopping
Although it’s no longer possible to shop tax-free within the EU, the Today Duty Free stores at Schiphol have chosen to offer the same prices to both EU and non-EU travelers. So, you’ll always pay the same low price, no matter where you’re flying.
