Sustainable airport

Schiphol’s ambition is to become the world’s most sustainable airport by 2030: a no-emission airport – which means no nitrogen emissions either. The national climate agreement includes a commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 49% by 2030. Our ambition goes a long way towards honouring that commitment. All our airports are 100% wind powered; we are also continuing to expand our electric fleet and we encourage our partners to follow our example and take advantage of renewable energy.

Many of our buildings – whether they be the terminal, offices or car park – are LEED gold certified. That means that they achieve good scores in terms of sustainability, for instance in areas such as water conservation, energy efficiency, material choice, indoor environments and innovation.
