19 February - 25 April: Kaagbaan under maintenance

The Kaagbaan Runway at Schiphol is under maintenance from 19 February to 25 April 2024. As a result, air traffic will be making use of other runways. This may be noticeable if you live in the area around Schiphol. On this page you can read about where we’re expecting more aircraft and what this period of runway maintenance means.

Landings on Aalsmeerbaan, Buitenveldertbaan and Zwanenburgbaan

While the Kaagbaan Runway is undergoing maintenance, we expect more planes to land on the Zwanenburgbaan and Aalsmeerbaan runways when approaching from the south. The flight routes to these runways are to the south of Schiphol, above the municipalities of Aalsmeer, Uithoorn, Haarlemmermeer, Nieuwkoop, Bodegraven-Reeuwijk and Alphen aan den Rijn. If you live in this area, you can expect more landing air traffic. The Buitenveldertbaan Runway will also be deployed more frequently. This will mainly be perceptible in Amstelveen.

Departing aircraft to use other flight routes

Aircraft that would normally take off from the Kaagbaan Runway will be making use of the Zwanenburgbaan (southerly direction), Aalsmeerbaan and the Buitenveldertbaan runways. When which runway is in use depends on the weather conditions, air traffic volumes and runway availability.

Night flights on Zwanenburgbaan

The Kaagbaan Runway is one of our preferential runways. This means that we prefer aircraft to take off from and land on this runway. We use the preferential runways for night flights. During this period of maintenance, planes will be making use of the Zwanenburgbaan Runway between 23:00 at night and 07:00 in the morning.

  • Maintenance in pictures

Some great aerial photos were taken: they show clearly what the new layer of asphalt looks like, and the completion of the dual carriageway is also well depicted.
