In 2020 there’s a whole series of highlights in store for Departure Hall & Lounge 1 (Terminal 1). From the opening of a new catering hot spot and the first security lanes on the mezzanine to the completion of KLM’s refurbished Business Class Lounge and new fast-track lifts and escalators in Departure Hall 1. There’s plenty to look forward to.

Panorama Terrace: a Schiphol hot spot
The new route to the Panorama Terrace is now open and many visitors and aviation enthusiasts are already finding their way to this Schiphol hot spot. But there’s even more in the pipeline: from the Panorama Terrace you can already see the work taking place in the interior spaces.
In the first quarter of 2020, these will be home to a new catering facility. A fine prospect for the plane spotters, who will soon be able to enjoy their panoramic view with a cup of coffee or a delicious lunch. We are also opening a new conference room near the terrace.
KLM Business Class Lounge
More space or a smarter concept? In the first quarter of this year, work on the KLM Business Class Lounge (Crown Europa) will reach completion. The ingenious design provides the ultimate proof that less can most definitely be more. The smarter layout offers a more spacious atmosphere on the same surface area, providing more seating for visitors while retaining the same stylish look & feel.
Fast track to security
The delivery of the brand-new stairway and escalator by the frontage of Departure Hall 1 is rapidly approaching. An array of hoardings are already in place, with work due for completion in mid-2020. Passengers with no hold baggage who have checked in online will then have a direct route to the security gate on the mezzanine.
Mezzanine up and running
It’s still a while away but the result will be well worth the wait: this year we are opening the first security lanes on the mezzanine. The exact date has yet to be set, but it looks like the first passengers will be passing through the new security gate after the summer. A major milestone of course! By the end of 2020, the mezzanine security gate should be fully operational. An exciting prospect, but we still have our work cut out for us!
