Schiphol was built with pride, but has by now been stretched to its limits. Over the coming years, we will be working to make Schiphol a home for world travellers. We are renovating and expanding to create more space, comfort and quality. The result will be a quieter, cleaner and future-proof airport that offers travellers greater comfort and that is better balanced with its surroundings. By 2035, we will invest around €10 billion in more sustainable and modern infrastructure. In doing so, Schiphol aims to strengthen its position as a European hub.
In the Schiphol Centre Master Plan, we outline what Schiphol will look like by 2050. Key elements include the construction of the new Terminal South, which will feature plenty of light, tranquillity and space. This includes the phased renovation and sustainability upgrade of Piers A, B, C, D and H/M. This will create space for the larger, quieter and cleaner aircraft of the future, whilst retaining the single-terminal concept. We are also modernising traveller areas, lounges and facilities to enhance comfort.
Schiphol is also working on improving infrastructure at and around the airport. We are looking into a new metro line between Amsterdam, Schiphol and Hoofddorp. On the ground, emissions are being significantly reduced through electrification and innovations such as baggage robots and underground systems. We are building an airport that is ready for the future and in balance with its surroundings.
