Mmmmmmassage: Massage-O-Matic

Last Thursday, Massage-O-Matic treated their 500,000th passenger to an oasis of rest and relaxation. For just a few euros, you can receive a luxurious five-minute massage in this computer-controlled shiatsu massage chair, which comes complete with relaxing images and music. Jessica van der Torre was welcomed with a bunch of flowers and a voucher for free massages.

“This is a fantastic milestone. I never imagined that Massage-O-Matic would grow into such an amazing success,” says owner and founder Michiel Versprille. “From its modest beginnings in March 2010 with massage chairs in Departure Lounge 2 and on Pier E, it has become a service that eases away the tension of over half a million people every year.” Michiel wasn’t left out of the gift-giving either: he received a miniature 3D massage chair to thank him for sharing his success story with Schiphol.

Testing every aspect

“When the first chairs were in place, we tested every aspect: price, duration and location. It was clear early on that we were fulfilling a key need for passengers, so we expanded the number of chairs. The design was also tweaked to adapt to an airport environment. With 47 Massage-O-Matics strategically placed on both landside and airside, you’re never far away from one of our chairs.”
