The new stairways connecting the railway tunnel to the future bus platforms at Schiphol Plaza are now complete. This marks an important step in the redevelopment of the bus station and the improvement of passenger flows at this busy public transport hub.
The three stairways have been constructed in the openings that were previously made in the roof of the railway tunnel. These openings formed the basis for a direct and clear connection between platform level and the bus station. With the completion of this work, routes for passengers will become more logical and easier to use.
The stairways are part of the Multimodal Hub Schiphol project: the large-scale renewal of the train and bus station at Schiphol Plaza. The existing bus station is being upgraded step by step to create more space for passengers and buses and to improve traffic flow. The new layout will also make the bus platforms clearer and easier to navigate.
Although the stairways are now complete, the project itself is not yet finished. Schiphol, ProRail, the Amsterdam Transport Region and BAM will continue work on the construction and redevelopment of the bus station in the coming period. This includes further development of the platforms, installation of technical systems, and finishing the surrounding area.
During the works, the situation on site may still change and construction fencing and temporary routes will remain in place. Passengers are advised to follow signs and instructions at the location.
With the completion of the stairways, the future bus station is starting to take shape. In the next phases, work will continue towards a comfortable and future-proof public transport hub for the many passengers who travel via Schiphol Plaza every day.
