A new bus station is being built at Schiphol over the coming years. As a key regional transport hub that’s seeing increasing use, the current station had become too small and was due for an upgrade. The new station will feature a large central platform with a roof and 20 bus bays. It will also be directly connected to the train platforms below. Preparatory work is already in full swing, and the construction site has been cleared. On Thursday 10 July, the start of construction was celebrated with a festive groundbreaking ceremony.

The new bus station will offer more space and comfort for travellers waiting for their bus. With 20 bays, more buses can arrive and depart efficiently. Three new stairways will provide direct access to the train platforms below, making transfers between train and bus smoother and quicker. There will also be a bicycle parking facility for around 500 bikes, available for both travellers and staff. The new bus station is expected to be completed in the autumn of 2027.
Marja Ruigrok, Vice Chair of the Amsterdam Transport Region and Alderman for Mobility in Haarlemmermeer:“Schiphol remains the only hub in the Netherlands where planes, trains, buses, taxis, and soon the metro come together. This new bus station is not only an international calling card but also vital for regional commuters. It’s essential they can transfer quickly, comfortably and safely at a station that’s ready for the future.”

Construction began in spring 2024 with test drilling and utility rerouting. Coaches and Uber vehicles have now moved to a new platform on the opposite side of the control tower. The bus station will remain open during the works. A temporary bike parking facility is available at Mercuriusplein, and since 15 June a temporary bus station has been in use alongside the Sheraton Hotel and P1 car park. With the site now prepared, full construction of the new station can begin.
The project is a joint effort by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, the Municipality of Haarlemmermeer, Amsterdam Transport Region, NS, ProRail, and Schiphol. BAM has been contracted to carry out the construction.
