Schiphol collaborating with Greenport Partners on construction of distribution stations

Schiphol has signed a contract for a collaboration with contractor consortium Greenport Partners – a combination of Dura Vermeer and Croonwolter&Dros – for the construction of new distribution stations. The contract marks the start of a dynamic partnership.

These distribution stations are part of Power Grid Master Plan, the programme designed to make Schiphol's energy grid future-proof. With growing energy demand, the need for a robust and reliable network is also increasing. The new distribution stations play a key role in this.

Electrification on the Schiphol site

The energy entering Schiphol through high-voltage substations will be converted by the distribution stations and efficiently distributed across the entire energy grid at the airport. In doing so, they enable further electrification, both for Schiphol itself and for tenants and other parties at the airport. This allows more processes and buildings to switch from gas to electricity.

Design with an eye for the environment and sustainability

Schiphol is taking the environment and sustainability into account in the design and construction of the distribution stations. Where possible, the use of materials will be limited and more sustainable alternatives chosen. Around the stations there will be space for greenery, with trees and plants that contribute to a pleasant living environment and biodiversity at and around the airport.

Confidence in collaboration and approach

With Greenport Partners, Schiphol has chosen a consortium of contractors with expertise in complex infrastructure projects. The collaboration was established through a European tender, overseen by the Procurement & Contracting department. In awarding the contract, a deliberate choice was made for a partner who is not only technically competent but, above all, aligns with Schiphol's long-term commitment to collaboration, based on core values such as equality, transparency, flexibility and ownership.

Project Manager Veerle explains: ‘By signing this contract, we are not only formalising our partnership but also setting out how we will work together. We are focusing on quality, efficiency and innovation, whilst ensuring stability and balance for the years ahead.

Eight new distribution stations

Construction of the distribution stations will begin this year. The project will be rolled out station by station, with a total of eight new distribution stations to be built.

By 2032, all distribution stations will be fully operational, and Schiphol will have a reinforced energy grid that is ready for the future.
