Albert Heijn’s digital store has landed at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in the Netherlands for a two-month trial period. The store is accessible to all visitors in Schiphol until the end of January. They can experience the speed and convenience of shopping without a cash register. It is not necessary to scan products in this store and payment is automatic.

Albert Heijn started testing the digital store at its Head Office in Zaandam in September 2019. The store was developed with the American tech start-up AiFi and with ING. It not only makes shopping very easy, but it’s also a standalone structure – so it can be placed “plug and play” at locations where there is a need for a small temporary store. The store has a great test location in Jan Dellaert Square in front of Schiphol Plaza, due to the many passers-by. Testing will continue for two months. The aim is to improve the store’s technology and customer experience.
The concept works like this: you scan your (contactless) debit card at the door, which then opens automatically. You choose the products you want, put them in your bag and leave. The groceries that you pick up are automatically registered and paid for. You can also check your purchases at the exit, if you wish.

The 14m2 digital store is on Jan Dellaert Square until the end of January 2020 and is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
