Schiphol | Creating more sustainable options

Schiphol is committed to making travel to and from the airport even more sustainable in the coming years. We focus not only on our own employees’ vehicle fleet, but also on those of our partners. We are keen to improve accessibility by bicycle, and we are investigating the feasibility of an environmental zone. We are also investing in expanding the capacity of Schiphol railway station, so that even more travellers can come to Schiphol by train.

What will we do in the near future?

Royal Schiphol Group’s vehicle fleet, including car-shares, will become emission free.
The vehicle fleet belonging to Royal Schiphol Group employees will become emission free.
The number of electric buses in the Amstel-Meerlanden public transport concession area (Schiphol’s local area) will be expanded to around 250 vehicles by 2021. From that moment, almost all the public buses that serve Schiphol will be electric.
More electric taxis will be added to the fleet, to ensure that even the buffer can be served by electric cars.
Hotel shuttles, staff buses and other bus connections will become electric.
Schiphol is already expanding the use of bicycle sharing.
We are installing charging points to keep lorries and hybrid lorries cool.
Royal Schiphol Group is investigating the feasibility of establishing an environmental zone at Schiphol Centre and for freight traffic.
The government aims to promote public transport use by travellers, employees and visitors. Royal Schiphol Group has provided concrete support for this goal, not least by investing €70 million to increase capacity at Schiphol railway station and create a new bus station.
The Lelystad Airport Express (the bus route connecting Lelystad railway station with Lelystad Airport) will be fully electric.
