High-voltage substation 150/20 kV South-East

At Schiphol Rozenburg, we are building a second high-voltage substation. This new station expands the power grid at the airport and enables a direct connection to TenneT’s national 150 kV network. This is a remarkable achievement. Never before have we connected such a powerful source directly to our own network. It is an important step in preparing Schiphol for the energy demand of the future.

Power for an increasingly sustainable airport

Thanks to the new substation, we can supply a 20kV network with reliable, stable energy. This is necessary to further electrify. This includes electric vehicles on the apron, making aircraft stands more sustainable and the energy supply for our buildings and technical installations. With this expansion, we are building a safe, robust and future-proof power grid that can adapt to growing demand.

Smart design with an eye for the environment

The high-voltage substation is being designed to align with our sustainability ambitions. Solar panels will be installed on the roof, the facade will become an insect hotel featuring a beehive pattern and we will plant insect-friendly vegetation around the building. In doing so, we strengthen not only our power grid but also biodiversity at and around the airport.

This station is co-financed by the European Union.
