Terms and conditions

Baggage handling is a massive endeavour. Terms and conditions are in place to protect Schiphol, airlines and passengers alike.

Odd-size-baggage

Rules for odd-sized baggage

Schiphol handles a small number of odd-sized items, which cannot be handled by the regular automated handling system. We refer to these items as exceptional or 'odd-sized' because they require manual handling.

Baggage reclaim

Many factors need to be considered in arrival belt planning – like which gates the passengers arrives at, to how long it takes for them to reach the reclaim area. From an operational perspective, it means that we want passengers to get their luggage from the belts in a seamless manner so that they can continue their journey home, or to their end destination.

The Baggage Reclaim Allocation Rules describe the terms and conditions for arrival belt allocation.

Baggage contingency procedure testing

This policy’s objective is two-fold – to enable on-site testing of baggage contingency procedures, while making sure that baggage of other airlines is processed normally. To be successful, it ensures that testing is not hindered by maintenance activities. It also ensures that any ‘live’ baggage items don’t inadvertently become involved in testing.

Register group check-in with odd-size

Groups that travel with more than 20 pieces of odd-size luggage need to be registered with Amsterdam Airport Schiphol at least 7 days in advance. This will allow us to carry out the handling as efficiently as possible.
