Gates

The gate and transfer process

Airport gates provide a waiting area for passengers before their flights. They are also the last place a passengers goes to before they board their flight. Every gate differs in its layout and boarding equipment, which is dependent on many factors including the pier and gate category.

Different gate layouts

Almost all gates at Schiphol have different layouts, which is due to the terminal building's architecture. The gate structure and the specific gate determine the ways in which seating areas are filled. However, there are seats for Persons with Reduced Mobility near the service desk at every gate.

Boarding equipment

Schiphol supports the gate boarding process using a gate announcement system, as well as Schiphol Dynamic Displays (SDD) which give live flight information. Using the gate phone, a ground handling agent can issue a status for the gate (i.e. start boarding, gate closing, etc.). That status will also be displayed on the SDD screens in other terminal locations.
