EES for airlines

Airlines must have an interface with the EES to verify that their passengers hold a valid visa before flying to Europe. To do so, an airline must be registered with the European IT agency eu‑LISA.

Informing passengers in advance

Non‑EU passengers will experience a changed border process at the airport. To ensure they are aware that they must register in the EES upon arrival in Europe, we ask airlines to inform their passengers about this change in advance. This helps ensure passenger flows remain as smooth as possible.

Passenger messaging is available in the airlines toolbox.

Non‑EU crew

Non-EU crew members are not required to register in the EES if they hold a valid crew document, such as a Crew ID, a Crew Member Certificate (CMC) or a General Declaration (GenDec).

Airlines with questions about this can contact the Dutch Ministry of Justice and Security via grenzenenveiligheid@minjenv.nl.

More information is also available in the toolbox.
