Business FAQs on how to work with our APIs: Frequently Asked Questions

Schiphol’s APIs offer a wealth of data and possibilities. We are trying to help you work with them, wherever we can. In the frequently asked questions for businesses below, you will find more information. Still looking for more information? Get in contact with us. We are happy to help. Or read our Technical FAQs.

1. Why would I use Schiphol’s APIs?

Through our APIs, we offer a wealth of information on current and scheduled flights to and from the airport, carried out by more than 90 different airlines. In addition, we provide a variety of other data sources to enable customers, partners and travellers to benefit optimally from all available Schiphol data.

2. What type of companies benefit most from your data?

Most companies and organisations that use Schiphol’s APIs have a relationship with Schiphol or the aviation sector, in one way or another. For example, airlines, cargo or baggage handlers, but also media parties, (public) transport companies, travellers’ organisations, (online) travel agencies and online service providers. Furthermore, we see an educational purpose for our APIs. That’s why we also promote our APIs to students.

3. How does it work and how do I start?

Here, in the Developer Center, you can open an account, which will give you access to the public Flight API. You can use this API (to a limited extent) to experience what you can do with our APIs. To get more extensive access, request an upgrade of your account. We will ask you some extra information and one of our account managers may contact you to discuss your needs.

4. Do you already have cases or examples to show?

At the moment we work on some (exploratory) cases and pilots with various airlines and partners of Schiphol. There are also a number of (international) apps available, that use our APIs. Over the next 12 months, we expect a growth of about 300% in the usage of our data and services, based on the growth of the last months. Get inspired by these examples.

5. What are the cost?

The basic use of our APIs is for free. If you want to use our APIs for commercial purposes or your looking for data disclosed in certain non-public APIs, then costs are involved. The cost of this depends on the use and type of API. Contact us to discuss your wishes and the associated costs.

6. What is SMARD and the Developer Center?

SMARD stands for SMart AiRport Data. This is the name of the team within Schiphol responsible for opening up and marketing data in the form of APIs and services. We make these services available through this special developer's portal, Developer Center.
