News: A look ahead at air traffic 1 – 7 March 2021

We are expecting an average of 405 flights per day next week. The Polderbaan Runway is not available due to major maintenance. The Zwanenburgbaan Runway will therefore be deployed more frequently during the day and at night over the coming months. The maintenance works will continue until at least the end of April. The wintery weather at the beginning of February meant that the works had to temporarily be put on hold. The freezing temperatures prevented us from being able to work on the foundations, asphalt and runway lighting. The works have now resumed, and we are investigating how the schedule has been affected. As soon as we have more information, we'll let you know.

Zwanenburgbaan and Buitenveldertbaan runways

The preferred runway for both take-off and landing is the Polderbaan, but it is currently unavailable for air traffic due to major maintenance works. The Zwanenburgbaan Runway is now being used as the main runway instead. However, because works are being carried out to the south of the Zwanenburgbaan, the Buitenveldertbaan Runway will be used as the main runway for take-off during the day when there is wind blowing towards the north.

At peak times, the Buitenveldertbaan Runway or Oostbaan Runway can be used as a second runway. The Oostbaan Runway is deployed as a second runway when the Buitenveldertbaan Runway cannot be used (due to wind direction and force, for example).

Expected peak times

We expect the following peaks on an average day in the week of 1 – 7 March:

Take-off:

  • Between 09:20 and 11:00 in the morning
  • Between 20:20 and 21:20 in the evening

Landing:

  • Between 07:20 and 08:40 in the morning
  • Between 18:40 and 20:00 in the evening

A look back at 15 – 21 February

In the seventh week of 2021, there were around 396 flights per day. This is in line with what we had predicted and equal to the number of flights in week six.

Most flights took off from or landed on the Kaagbaan and Zwanenburgbaan runways. On four days last week, the Aalsmeerbaan Runway was used as the main runway for take-off on a few occasions because of wind conditions and (one just one day) because of works on the Kaagbaan Runway. The Oostbaan Runway was deployed on four mornings due to the Buitenveldertbaan Runway being unsuitable because of the weather. There were landings on the Buitenveldertbaan on Tuesday night due to wind and works on the Zwanenburgbaan Runway.
