Investing in the quality of the airport while working on becoming quieter and more sustainable. That, in a nutshell, is what Schiphol's plans for the future look like. Keep reading to find out more.
Quality and balance. These two concepts are at the heart of the new plans we recently announced. 'For more than a century, Schiphol has been a home for world travellers, a hub for goods and a cornerstone of our economy,' explains our CEO Pieter van Oord. 'With our plans for the future we want to maintain and strengthen our position and contribute to the progress of the Netherlands. Our future can be summarised in two words: quality and balance. This is how we keep the Netherlands moving and make a small country great. With a high-quality airport that serves the Netherlands.'
Over the next 10 years, we are investing €10 billion in better and more sustainable infrastructure, and better working conditions and services. We want to return to the top three European hub airports by delivering quality to travellers, employees and airlines. At the same time, we want to strike a balance with our environment and society as a whole. Making the airport quieter and reducing emissions produced by and at Schiphol plays an important part in that.
We also want to use our investments to further improve working conditions. We will continue to implement innovations that make working at the airport healthier and less strenuous. These include baggage robots, underground systems for quickly transferring suitcases and goods, and reducing exposure to ultrafine particles.
The current terminal and accessibility of Schiphol are inadequate for the number of travellers. More space and better accessibility are essential for a high-quality Schiphol. In the Schiphol Centre Master Plan, we describe what our airport should ideally look like by 2050.
