Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is more than just an airport; it’s a gateway that connects people from all over the world. With over 300 destinations across all continents, Schiphol is one of Europe’s most important hubs. Every day, thousands of travellers depart or arrive here, continuing their journey to holidays, business meetings, or family visits. Whether it’s a short hop to Rome or Reykjavik, or a long-haul flight to Buenos Aires or Tokyo – the world starts here.
The furthest non-stop route from Schiphol is Buenos Aires in Argentina, covering nearly 12,000 kilometres. Yet Schiphol also brings you closer to nearby destinations: within just a few hours you can be in Iceland or Southern Europe. Together with our airline partners, we make sure the world is always within reach. It’s remarkable to think that the very first passenger flight in 1929 to Batavia (today’s Jakarta) took 13 days. Today, that same trip takes just 14 hours.
With millions of travellers passing through, it’s no surprise that things get lost. Each year, Schiphol’s Lost & Found team processes tens of thousands of items – from luggage and laptops to musical instruments, jewellery, and even unusual finds like a false tooth or a sombrero. Many items are returned to their rightful owners, but not everything is collected. Unclaimed belongings are either auctioned or donated to local charities such as food banks, giving them a second life.
