Are you planning to produce energy using a sustainable method? Schiphol encourages the generation and use of sustainable energy! If you are about to install a production installation, it is important that you notify us so that we can keep an overview of all sustainable developments and monitor the safety of our distribution network. We have described the various steps of the registration process below. This information will help you register your production installation.
Download the registration form, fill it out, and click the submit button at the bottom of the form.
Once we receive your registration, we’ll check it for completeness. If we have questions, we’ll contact you and complete the form together. Once everything is clear, we’ll process your registration. We’ll perform a grid check to see if there’s enough capacity on the electricity distribution network for the energy your installation will produce and feed back. After this assessment, we’ll inform you whether your registration has been approved or rejected.
You’ll need several permits for a production installation, such as an environmental permit, building permit, or lifting permit. Safety requirements and work procedures also apply. To determine which permits are relevant for your installation, please register your project by sending an email to vergunningen@schiphol.nl.
Your registration will be discussed in the Central Permit Consultation (COV). After the meeting, you’ll be informed about the required permits, studies, and documentation.
In some cases, you can receive a subsidy for producing sustainable energy. The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) offers the SDE++ scheme (Incentive for Sustainable Energy Production and Climate Transition). To qualify, you must meet certain conditions, such as having a transport indication, which we provide if there’s available capacity on the distribution network. Visit the RVO website for more information about the SDE++ subsidy, its conditions, and how to apply.
A production installation generates electricity. The origin of each amount of sustainably produced electricity must be registered. For solar energy, this certificate is called a Guarantee of Origin (GvO).
VertiCer issues Guarantees of Origin for sustainable energy sources and Certificates of Origin for non-sustainable electricity in the Netherlands. A GvO is the only proof that energy was sustainably generated. To qualify for the SDE++ subsidy, you must register your solar power installation as a production installation with VertiCer.
To determine how much electricity your production installation generates, we’ll install a gross production meter at your location. If your location has multiple production installations, we’ll install a separate meter for each. The meter will be read by Schiphol Utilities’ responsible party. A fixed monthly fee will be charged for this metering service and for the maintenance of the meter. This will appear on your invoice under “Metering Service.”
Choose an energy supplier and inform them that you have a production installation that will feed electricity back into Schiphol Utilities’ distribution network. They will set up a contract with you for the electricity you feed back.
Already have a contract with an energy supplier for electricity consumption? Feeding energy back may affect your existing contract. Always contact your energy supplier.
Once everything is arranged and your installer has placed the production installation, it’s time to put it into operation. We’ll do this together. We’ll perform a final check to ensure the installation meets all requirements. If everything is in order, you’re ready to start using your production installation!
The Schiphol Control Centre is at your service 24/7.
