Schiphol has been measuring aircraft noise around the airport for years using fixed measurement stations. The measurement results are visible on an online platform. We will soon switch to a new measurement system, in which we will use noise measurement stations from the company Casper BV. This means that both the measurement stations and the platform will soon be under one roof.
The transition will take place this month. During this period, we will convert the measuring equipment in phases. This will be done with two to three measuring stations per day. During the conversion, a measuring station may be temporarily offline. During the conversion, no measurements will be taken at that measuring station, but the other measuring stations will remain active. The data collected with the sound meters is intended as information for the environment; they are not used to monitor the noise limits. Converting the sound measuring stations therefore has no consequences for enforcement. For enforcement, calculations are used at other (virtual arithmetic) assessment points (better known as enforcement points).
After all measurement stations have been transferred, the online environment will also be updated. This will be accessible on the Local Community Contact Centre Schiphol (BAS) website. Until then, the current environment will remain available.
With this transition, we expect the measurement stations to be online more often and have fewer interruptions. In this way, we can ensure that the noise measurements remain future-proof.
