News  ·  13 AugustOpen Day at Schiphol’s PFAS Soil Treatment Facility

Following the latest successful tests, Schiphol processed its first batch of contaminated soil through the PFAS soil treatment facility in July. Now that the facility is fully operational, we would like to give local residents the opportunity to see it up close.

This summer, Schiphol commissioned the PFAS soil treatment facility located next to the Zwanenburg Runway. Over the next three years, the facility will treat 200,000 tonnes of PFAS-contaminated soil generated by construction and maintenance activities at Schiphol and currently stored at temporary storage locations. In doing so, we will remove part of the PFAS from the environment and enable most of the soil to be reused at Schiphol.

A look behind the scenes

As we received many questions from local residents in the run-up to construction, we would like to offer the opportunity to visit the soil treatment facility and see how it operates. For this reason, the site will be open to the public on the morning of Saturday 12 September.
