On 24 and 25 June 2025, the NATO Summit will take place in the Netherlands – a major international event with a noticeable impact on Schiphol and the surrounding area. During this period, Schiphol will welcome government leaders, ministers and delegations from all over the world. This means that temporary measures will be taken, some of which may have consequences for our neighbours. Schiphol requested an exemption for air traffic from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management.
The Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Security & Justice have designated Schiphol as the airport for arriving and departing delegations during the NATO Summit. Various other measures are being taken throughout the country, including security and traffic adjustments around The Hague, Schiphol and other locations.
A group of experts consisting of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Royal Marechaussee, Schiphol and the NCTV advised using the Polderbaan Runway for the NATO summit, partly from a security perspective. This means that the Polderbaan will be closed from the evening of 21 June 2025 until the morning of 27 June 2025.
The summit will bring changes to air traffic. Due to the closure of the Polderbaan Runway and major maintenance on the Buitenveldertbaan Runway (from 10 May to 28 September), runway use will temporarily be different than normal. There will also be adjustments in the airspace, which may be noticeable for residents in the area. In addition, the accessibility of Schiphol will be affected by additional safety measures and traffic adjustments in the region.
