Local community takes centre stage during third edition of Schiphol Academy

schiphol academy 2025

In November, dozens of Royal Schiphol Group colleagues from all over the world came to Schiphol for the third edition of the Schiphol Academy. Curious about what that entailed and what it means for you as a neighbour? You can find out here.

The Schiphol Academy is a programme that brings together employees from airports that are part of Royal Schiphol Group. For one week, they focus on a specific topic with the aim of getting to know each other and learning from each other. This time, during the third edition, the local community and environment was on the agenda.

Representation

Employees from airports that are part of Royal Schiphol Group came together for this week-long event. Colleagues from Hobart and Brisbane (Australia), Incheon (South Korea) and JFK Terminal 4 (New York, United States) were among those present. Colleagues from Indonesia and Aruba also travelled to the Netherlands. Our regional airports Maastricht Aachen Airport, Rotterdam The Hague Airport and Eindhoven Airport were also represented.

Important for our local environment

During the programme, Schiphol demonstrated how we encourage airlines to use cleaner and quieter aircraft by offering lower charges. We also discussed topics such as fleet renewal, communication with the local community and various other issues that relate to or are important for our surroundings. Together with the participants, we also took a bicycle tour through the region to visit projects that were made possible in part by the Environmental Fund. And we worked on case studies to further improve our approach to local community and environment management.

Informative and inspiring

It was informative and inspiring, but also just great fun to spend the whole week exchanging experiences and working with colleagues from all the Netherlands and the world. We’re already looking forward to the next edition of the Schiphol Academy!
