Eberhardjes and Schiphol

Eberhardjes at Schiphol

Eberhardjes. These heart‑shaped biscuits are named after the late Eberhard van der Laan, mayor of Amsterdam. By now, they’ve become a well‑known symbol in the city and throughout the Netherlands. ‘Take good care of our city and of each other’ – these were van der Laan’s parting words to the people of Amsterdam. With the proceeds from the biscuit sales, the Eberhardjes Foundation does exactly that: caring for one another and bringing people together.

To celebrate the 100‑year bond between Amsterdam and Schiphol, the airport is partnering with the Foundation. Biscuits in special edition packaging will be handed out throughout April and used by Schiphol as a small gift. And before you know it, it may just become a collector’s item. Schiphol and the Eberhardjes Foundation will use the proceeds to do something positive for the city.

Don’t rule anyone out from the start. Listen. Look for ways to move forward together. Having a cup of coffee and sharing a biscuit is a great way to make that first connection.
