Measurement network

Measurements help us to better understand concentrations of aircraft and diesel engine emissions and to assess whether preventative measures are effective.

Measurement network

Schiphol is installing a network of fixed measuring points all over Airside. This means that concentrations of ultrafine particles can be constantly measured. This measurement network plays a crucial role in gaining insight into the behaviour of UFP. With these insights, Schiphol can implement even more targeted measures and closely monitor their effectiveness. The network is supported by sensors and data analysis, which ensures a reliable and future-oriented system.

Monitoring policy

Schiphol has developed a monitoring policy to better map aircraft and diesel engine emissions (VDME) on the airport grounds. This policy ensures that emissions are measured reliably, with clear agreements on measurement locations, frequency and methods. By collecting this data, Schiphol can work in a targeted manner to improve air quality and protect employees and visitors. The results are used to take smart measures and further develop policy.

Measuring ultrafine particles in indoor spaces

Schiphol has set up a study to measure ultrafine particle levels in indoor spaces. Tests show that current air handling units are very effective in filtering UFP from the air. This is a positive result.
