Official opening of Schiphol’s New Car Rental Service Center

This month marked the official opening of the new Car Rental Service Center at Schiphol Airport, located on the site of the former P4 parking area. The project is a real estate development by Schiphol Real Estate in collaboration with architectural firm De Zwarte Hond, which was responsible for the building’s design. With a total area of 40,000 square meters and space to accommodate approximately 2,500 vehicles, the center ranks among the largest car rental service facilities in Europe.

The five major car rental companies operating at Schiphol — Avis Budget, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz, and Sixt — are now fully operational at this new, state-of-the-art location.

Sustainable Design

The building was designed by De Zwarte Hond with a strong emphasis on sustainability. A key feature is its expansive 17,000 m² rooftop covered with solar panels. The building’s steel structure is demountable and modular, allowing for flexibility and future adaptability. For the office and workshop spaces, bio-based materials were used wherever possible. The facades beneath the main roof are constructed from wood, and water features have been incorporated throughout the surrounding area to enhance ecological value.

The new Car Rental Service Center offers a modern, sustainable, and future-proof base of operations for car rental companies. It supports Schiphol’s goal of making transport to and from the airport more environmentally friendly and helps rental companies in their transition to electric vehicles.

We extend our best wishes to Avis Budget, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz, and Sixt for continued success at their new location.
