On Saturday 26 September, children from Amsterdam Nieuw-West were able to go on a special journey in the SpaceBuzz. This was made possible thanks to a contribution from the Schiphol Environmental Fund.
It took a bit of effort to park the enormous bus at Joop Woortmanplein in Amsterdam-Osdorp, but with the help of the police, they managed it. This was the venue for the Middelveldsche Akerpolder Neighbours’ Day. The square was packed with stalls, sports and music for all the local residents. And astronaut Andre Kuipers’ SpaceBuzz was parked there all afternoon. Here, children (and adults) can use VR headsets to experience what it’s like to travel in space.
A fantastic bonus
For the children and schools in this neighbourhood, the cost of something like the SpaceBuzz is often unaffordable. That is why Schiphol was asked for support. Thanks to a contribution from the Schiphol Environmental Fund, these children were now able to experience what it’s like to go into space. And for Neighbours’ Day, this was also a fantastic bonus, alongside all the other activities for the neighbourhood.
The Schiphol Environmental Fund is financed by Schiphol and, through contributions such as this, helps to improve the quality of life in the local area. This ranges from noise insulation to contributions towards improving public spaces and projects such as this Neighbours’ Day in Osdorp.
