News  ·  29 September Haarlemmermeer in the spotlight for one month

The municipality of Haarlemmermeer and Schiphol are of great value to one another. That is why, during Haarlemmermeer Month in September, we focused on this mutual bond. A series of activities organised with partners in the municipality demonstrated what that value looks like.

Entrepreneurs from the tourism sector visited Schiphol to get a glimpse of future plans. Pupils from Wereldwijs primary school were given a guided tour of Schiphol Plaza and learnt new words during a ‘Language Trip’ organised by JINC. And representatives from the regional business community were invited to discover more about the value of cargo to the Metropolitan Region.

Old Control Tower

The highlight of Haarlemmermeer Month was the opening of the Old Control Tower at Schiphol-Oost. Our neighbours’ enthusiasm for this was so great that the available slots for Saturday were fully booked in no time. That is why the control tower was also opened on Sunday. Visitors ranged from a 14-year-old plane spotter, families and tourists to a former employee who had worked in the control tower for over 40 years and whose son had organised the surprise visit for him.
