The Council of State has issued an advisory opinion on the new Airport Traffic Decree (Luchthavenverkeersbesluit, LVB) that the government is currently developing. Read what this means for our airport here.
For some time now, the government has been working on establishing new rules for Schiphol. These are set out in a new Airport Traffic Decree and are intended not only to reduce noise nuisance around the airport, but also to provide better legal protection for our neighbours. The plans are designed to ensure that by 2029, the number of people experiencing severe nuisance from Schiphol will have decreased by 20 percent compared with the end of 2024. The number of local residents experiencing severe sleep disturbance must also decrease by at least 15 percent.
Important step
The Council of State, an important advisory body to the government, has now issued an advisory opinion on the new Airport Traffic Decree. This is an important step for Schiphol. It means the government can finally establish the new rules for Schiphol. This step brings proper legal protection for local residents and the aviation sector closer.
In the meantime, we continue to work on achieving a good balance with the surrounding environment. For example, we encourage the use of quieter aircraft. We have achieved good results with this measure and fleet renewal is continuing. As a result, Schiphol is becoming increasingly quieter.
International hub
Schiphol is important to the Netherlands and serves as a major international hub. That is precisely why the regulations concerning the airport must be legally sound. This is important for everyone: for the Netherlands, for local residents and for airlines.
