If they can taxi straight to a preprepared aircraft stand, planes no longer need to wait at a holding bay with their engines running.
Schiphol is working with LVNL and ground handling agents to minimise aircraft engine emissions upon aircraft arrival. We do this by ensuring that the aircraft can move onto the parking stand in one go after landing. Currently, it still happens too often that an aircraft cannot proceed immediately because the stand is not yet ready. As a result, the aircraft must wait in the bay with its engines running. This causes emissions. The measures we are working on are intended to ensure that the stand is ready before the aircraft arrives.
