Royal Schiphol Group (RSG) plays an important social and economic role. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is one of the world’s best-connected airports, offering direct links to more than three hundred international destinations. This global reach is strengthened by our regional airports and international alliances and participations.
RSG's vision describes the ambitions we want to achieve by 2050 by creating value for our customers, partners, local environment and society as a whole. We do this by focusing on four qualities.
Build high-quality airports with excellent connectivity and sufficient capacity
Air connections play an important role in the open Dutch economy and in the social prosperity of our country. Schiphol keeps the Netherlands moving and makes a small country great. We therefore place particular emphasis on ensuring the high quality of our network. We want to be connected to the most important economic, political and cultural centres in the world that are important to the Netherlands. With our regional network of airports, we make air travel possible for all Dutch citizens, from Maastricht to Rotterdam and from Lelystad to Eindhoven. But Schiphol also connects the Netherlands with the world, and directly and indirectly provides thousands of jobs, trade meetings and opportunities for people.
Mitigate the impact of our operations on the (local) environment and aim to create positive value for society
While maintaining our strong network of connections, we also focus on improving the quality of our living environment, both locally and globally. Our Vision 2050 describes our ambitions in the following areas: mitigating aviation's contribution to climate change, the net zero 2050 target for aviation and development in line with the Paris Agreement, achieving emission-free, circular business operations, and encouraging more sustainable aviation and a healthier living environment around our airports.
Foster a high-performing, engaged and resilient workforce
We want our airports to be attractive places to work. That is why we are committed to improving the quality of work in the sector as a whole, by ensuring a working environment that is not only productive but also safe, healthy and attractive. Airports are largely dependent on labour-intensive services such as security, cleaning and ground handling. We are responding to a tight labour market by using product optimisation, digitisation and AI to increase productivity while improving working conditions for employees.
Deliver an exceptional travel experience
We continue to prioritise quality over quantity in all our services. We aim to be among the best in Europe in terms of quality, offering reliable and fast turnaround times, clean and well-maintained facilities, hospitality and an attractive range of shops and restaurants. As a home for world travellers, we not only provide a safe and easeful customer experience, but also a unique and memorable travel experience.
The four qualities in our Vision 2050 are based on three fundamental conditions. These are essential factors for our day-to-day operations, our business management and the success of our organisation.
Safety is the top priority in all activities at RSG airports. Resilience is also important, enabling us to adapt to external (geopolitical) changes, policy and market dynamics.
Financial stability is crucial for a strong organisation. Thanks to our strategic, prudent financial approach, which especially focuses on maintaining solid credit ratings, we are able to weather economically uncertain times (such as the coronavirus pandemic).
Well-maintained, functional and reliable infrastructure is crucial for our airports. Thanks to a solid maintenance plan and a forward-looking investment plan, we can deliver optimal quality for our travellers now and in the future.
We are working towards realising our Vision 2050 with the Strategic Plan 2025-2035. We are doing this by way of six strategic pillars.
