AI Energie station

Schiphol is working hard on sustainability by gradually replacing fossil fuels with thermal energy storage and electrification. Our goal is to have all our buildings off gas by 2030 and to connect electric equipment. This energy transition requires a lot of electricity, so it is essential that our power supply is ready for the future.

Over the next five years, we will increase the capacity of our power grid fivefold to meet the increasing energy demand. We are doing this, among other things, by building a new high-voltage station at Schiphol Centrum, opposite The Base. Construction of this new high-voltage station is in full swing on the green strip between Schiphol Boulevard and the Westelijke Randweg. From 2027, this station will supply power to the airport and offices.

Design

The station will have a unique layout, integrated into the environment with a green dome on which trees, shrubs, and herbs will grow. Together with the adjacent water storage, this will create space for biodiversity and nature, making the station blend into the environment like a natural hill.
