News: Zwanenburgbaan out of order for six weeks

Air traffic will use Buitenveldertbaan and Kaagbaan

From Sunday 10 March, the Zwanenburgbaan (Runway 18C-36C) will be in maintenance for six weeks. During this runway maintenance, air traffic will follow the flight routes to and from the Buitenveldertbaan (Runway 09-27) and the Kaagbaan (Runway 06-24). Some aircraft will also land on the Polderbaan (18R-36L). Because of this, if you live or work in the vicinity of these runways, you can experience that more planes will be flying over during this period.

Use of the Aalsmeerbaan

If the Kaagbaan cannot be used due to weather conditions, air traffic can use the Aalsmeerbaan (18L-36R). This could also be the case once or twice at night. Good agreements have been made about this with the municipality of Aalsmeer and residents' associations.

Why is runway maintenance necessary?

To keep the runways safe and in good condition, we carry out maintenance regularly. The Zwanenburg runway is often in use. Every day aircraft take off and land on this runway, causing the asphalt to wear out. The tyres of the aircraft also leave a lot of rubber behind, which we remove during these maintenance period. The markings on the runway are also given a lick of paint, we tackle the drain and we replace lights when necessary. These are activities that we cannot perform if air traffic continues. As a result, the Zwanenburg runway will not be available for air traffic for six weeks.
