The flower industry experienced a rollercoaster year in 2018, mainly due to adverse weather conditions. Growers in Kenya enjoyed record output in the first couple of months of the year, but later experienced a decline in production levels. Likewise, growers in South America were affected by cold weather and rain.
The industry has also been impacted by other developments such as technological developments, emerging flower growing markets, and an increased demand for flowers in Asia, with calls for more collaborative efforts amongst stakeholders to strengthen the sector.
Such volatile conditions have placed pressure on the flower industry and logistics firms working with growers.
