Cargonaut has provided Amsterdam Airport Schiphol's cargo community with digital chain information since 1986. The information provided by Cargonaut plays a vital part in the various customs processes relating to the import and export of air cargo. Given the increasing volumes of air cargo data that Schiphol is required to process, it attaches great strategic importance to a balanced and strong data position in the global supply chain. In this respect, stimulating the exchange of data and interoperability between all logistics parties and government bodies involved plays an essential part. Several conversations between Schiphol, the Tax and Customs Administration and the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management have revealed that there is room for improvement with regard to the exchange of information within the chain. In the interests of the cargo community, Royal Schiphol Group is prepared to take a more active role.
This may have several consequences for Cargonaut, one of them being that Royal Schiphol Group may appoint Cargonaut as an executive agency for the aforementioned closer cooperation. However, this will require Royal Schiphol Group to acquire a 75% controlling interest in Cargonaut (Royal Schiphol Group currently owns 38.84% of the shares). At Royal Schiphol Group's request, an independent consulting firm is currently examining Cargonaut's position and what kind of investments will have to be made to improve the exchange of information. The next steps to be taken will largely be determined by the consulting firm's findings. Royal Schiphol Group hopes to be able to provide the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol’s cargo community with more information before the end of 2019.
