News: What you can expect as a resident of Schiphol in 2020

We expect to get more political clarity about the future of Schiphol this year. This is something that Dick Benschop also called for in his New Year’s speech. However, regardless of what decisions are made about the airport in The Hague, we have a number of plans for you already. They are to reduce noise pollution and ultrafine particulate emissions in the environment.

Less noise disturbance

We put together a package of measures designed to reduce noise pollution and improve the living environment, in collaboration with Air Traffic Control the Netherlands (LVNL), KLM, other airlines and sector partners. We are about to kick off our work together with local residents and administrators. You will have plenty of opportunity to study the package carefully and express your opinions about it. We will tell you more about this in the coming period.

Action plan for ultrafine particles

The Rijksinstituut voor Volksgezondheid en Milieu (National Institute for Public Health and the Environment, or RIVM) is currently conducting research into the effects of ultrafine particles among Schiphol’s residents. We will come up with an action plan shortly in order to further reduce the emission of ultrafine particles at and around the airport. We want to improve the air quality around Schiphol with the measures in that plan.

Later this year

The Neighbour’s Days will be repeated at the beginning of April and we will come up with new living environment initiatives. We will keep you informed about those, as well as other current events, in the Neighbour’s Newsletter. We will also provide you with information about the expected runway maintenance and use.
