News: The Dakota lands in Madurodam

Madurodam, a miniature park in The Hague, has landed its very own Dakota plane to compliment in their miniature version of Schiphol. The beautiful DC-3 is the star attraction at the family theme park, which can be seen by the public when the park reopens.

The Flying Dutchman

Despite being a park full of miniatures, the DC-3 is life sized. At 18-metres long with a wingspan of 30-metres, it towers high above the miniature Schiphol. DC-3 – also known as ‘The Flying Dutchman’ – is hand-painted in the iconic silver and blue KLM style of the 1940s and 50s. Visitors to the park get a real ‘flight experience’ in the Dakota – a flight through time and space, which centralises the story of the pioneering spirit that made our country great.

Test flight

As soon as Madurodam’s doors are permitted to reopen, the The Flying Dutchman’s first (test) flights are planned to be shown off to the public. Of course, you must keep a minimum length of 1.5-metres between each other at the Dakota.
