News: Planning baanonderhoud 2020

We will regularly be carrying out maintenance works on our runways, taxiways and carriageways at Schiphol again in the coming year. This will have consequences for the use of runways and for air traffic, particularly when the Polderbaan or Kaagbaan Runways are not available. This 2020 Plan shows exactly when a runway is undergoing works.

16 March-26 April: major maintenance on Schiphol-Oostbaan

Schiphol-Oostbaan will undergo major maintenance works that will last for 5 weeks between March and April. There will be very few consequences for large air traffic, because we usually only use Schiphol-Oostbaan for small, business and private aircraft. Schiphol-Oostbaan is only used in very strong winds for safety reasons. Small business traffic will start or land on one of the other runways during maintenance.

11-19 May: maintenance on Zwanenburgbaan Runway

The Zwanenburgbaan Runway will be out of service for a week from Monday 11 May to Sunday 17 May. We expect more air traffic on the Kaagbaan and the Buitenveldertbaan Runways during this period.

25-31 May: maintenance on Buitenveldertbaan Runway

There will be maintenance works taking place on the Buitenveldertbaan Runway from 25 to 31 May. The expectation is that the Aalsmeerbaan and Zwanenburgbaan will be used more during this period.

31 August-6 September: maintenance on Polderbaan Runway

The Polderbaan Runway will be out of service for maintenance works for one week, from Monday 31 August to Sunday 6 September. We expect more air traffic on the Zwanenburgbaan Runway during the works. Landings will be made on Zwanenburgbaan during the night.

21-27 September: maintenance on Kaagbaan Runway

Kaagbaan will be out of service for a week in September due to maintenance works. We expect more landing aircraft on the Aalsmeerbaan and Zwanenburgbaan Runways during the works. Aalsmeerbaan, Buitenveldertbaan and Zwanenburgbaan Runways will be used for starting traffic.

28 September-4 October: maintenance on Aalsmeerbaan Runway

The Aalsmeerbaan Runway will be out of use for this week. As a result, we expect to use the Buitenveldertbaan and Zwanenburgbaan Runways in a southerly direction.

Taxiway maintenance and consequences for Buitenveldertbaan Runway

We will also carry out works on the runways over which the aircraft taxi, in addition to maintaining the runways. It is important that these tracks and all of the entry and exit ramps are in good condition, so that taxiing is safe and efficient. We will check these thoroughly and renew the asphalt, markings and lighting, where necessary. The maintenance of the carriageways in 2020 may have consequences for the deployment of the Buitenveldertbaan Runway:

  • 6 January - 15 March maintenance on the C taxiway
We may possibly use the Buitenveldertbaan Runway more than usual in this period.
  • 25 May - 21 July maintenance of the B taxiway
Buitenveldertbaan Runway may be used less during this maintenance.
  • 6 July - 19 July maintenance of the A taxiway
The Buitenveldertbaan Runway will be out of use during this period.
  • 30 August - 11 October activities on taxiway Q
These activities will take place simultaneously with maintenance on the Polderbaan (see above) from 30 August- 6 September. There is no impact on runway use expected for the remaining period of work.
  • 5 - 31 October maintenance on the A taxiway
There may be reduced use of the Buitenveldertbaan Runway during this maintenance period.
  • 2 - 29 November maintenance on the A taxiway
There may be reduced use of the Buitenveldertbaan Runway during this maintenance period.
