News: No air traffic to or from the Zwanenburgbaan Runway

The Zwanenburgbaan Runway will be out of use for air traffic due to maintenance works from Monday 11 May-Tuesday 19 May. The limited number of planes that now take off and land at Schiphol currently use the Kaagbaan Runway and the Polderbaan Runway most of the time. As a result, we expect that maintenance works will have few noticeable consequences for residents in the area of the Zwanenburgbaan Runway.

Maintenance Zwanenburgbaan Runway May 2020

Polderbaan Runway and Kaagbaan Runway use

The Zwanenburgbaan Runway was not used very often during April. Few planes will have to use the other runways during the maintenance works due to the closure of the Zwanenburgbaan Runway. Runway use depends on factors such as availability, wind and weather conditions. We prefer to use the Polderbaan Runway and the Kaagbaan Runways, because the approach and departure routes pass relatively few residential dwellings than they do when we use other runways.

Runway maintenance during the corona crisis

We are working hard 24-hours a day to ensure that runway maintenance works do not last longer than necessary, despite the reduced air traffic due to the corona crisis. We will replace approximately 80-tons of asphalt and redraw the runway markings on the Zwanenburgbaan Runway, wherever necessary. We will also check runway lighting and replace lights on the northern side of the runway. In addition, we will check cabling and inspect the rainwater drainage. Schiphol will carry out the works in collaboration with Heijmans.
