Fokker and KLM

Actor Fedja van Huêt takes on the role of aircraft manufacturer Anthony Fokker and Daan Schuurmans plays KLM founder Albert Plesman. As aviation pioneers, Fokker and Plesman were inextricably linked. Although their characters were like chalk and cheese, together they succeeded in making the Netherlands an important player on the world stage of aviation during the Interbellum.

Filming at Schiphol

Schiphol and the surrounding area of the airport also feature in the TV series. Last year, an antique Fokker FVII was filmed in Nieuw-Vennep and the fort near Uithoorn was transformed into the old Fokker factory. In Luchtvaartmuseum Aviodrome in Lelystad, scenes were shot near the replica of the former Schiphol station building from 1928.

Uiver

Fans of old planes such as the Uiver (DC-2) are in for a treat: episode 6 is devoted to the Melbourne race, the famous air race from London to Australia that took place in 1934. KLM entered the PH-AJU Uiver, a Douglas DC-2, and became the winner on handicap. Fortunately, the Uiver did not have to fly to Melbourne for the filming of the TV series - the plane stayed safely on the runway at Lelystad Airport.
