News: Kaagbaan under maintenance, other runways in use more often

The Kaagbaan Runway will soon be undergoing maintenance during the week. It won't be available to air traffic from Monday 31 October to Friday 4 November, and on Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 November. On these days, we expect more aircraft to land on the Zwanenburgbaan and Aalsmeerbaan runways. Departing air traffic will make more frequent use of the Zwanenburgbaan, Aalsmeerbaan and Buitenveldertbaan runways.

No works during the weekend

The maintenance on the Kaagbaan Runway will not be carried out during the weekend. This is due to a shortage of electrotechnical specialists to carry out the work and employees who need to supervise it because of safety regulations. That's why the maintenance will continue on two weekdays after the weekend, when the necessary employees are available. An advantage of this is that the Kaagbaan can be deployed in the weekend of 5-6 November, meaning that the other runways won't need to be used more frequently.

Repair work, mowing the grass, cleaning

Works during this period of maintenance on the Kaagbaan Runway include repairing the asphalt, renewing the runway markings, cleaning the lights and replacing bulbs. We will also be mowing the grass, checking the cabling and electrics and making other small repairs. We will possibly flush out the rainwater drainage system too. We are carrying out the runway maintenance in collaboration with construction company Heijmans.

Which runway is in use?

Which runways are used during the period of maintenance works on the Kaagbaan Runway depends on a variety of factors, including weather conditions (showers, wind speed and direction), runway availability and air traffic volumes. If you have any questions about air traffic, the team at the Local Community Contact Centre (BAS) are happy to help. Visit bezoekbas.nl or call them on 020 601 5555.
