News: Aalsmeerbaan Runway under maintenance from 2 to 7 November

The Aalsmeerbaan Runway will be undergoing maintenance at the beginning of November and will not be available for air traffic during that period. The work will start at 07:00 on the morning of Monday 2 November and last until 19:00 on the evening of Saturday 7 November As a result, we expect the Buitenveldertbaan Runway to be used more often during this period. The Zwanenburgbaan Runway can also be used more in a southerly direction. Which runway is used depends on different factors, such as the wind and weather conditions.

Removing rubber

During the maintenance of the Aalsmeerbaan Runway, we will repair the tarmac, replace the lighting where necessary and remove the rubber that aircraft tyres leave behind on landing. After all, the asphalt on a runway is much coarser than, for example, the asphalt on the motorway. When an aircraft lands on a new layer of asphalt, it leaves behind ten kilos (!) of rubber on the runway. As the runway is used more frequently, this amount decreases to around 4 to 6 kilograms of ‘stuck’ rubber per landing.
