News: A look ahead at air traffic 30 November – 6 December 2020

We expect an average of 450 daily flights at Schiphol in the first week of December. The Zwanenburgbaan Runway will not always be available for air traffic because of works on the taxiway system being carried out to the south of it. This means that the Buitenveldertbaan Runway may be used more frequently at peak times. The Schiphol-Oostbaan Runway may be used as a second runway when there is a southeasterly wind or strong southerly wind. Download the full fact sheet (in Dutch) here: bezoekbas.nl.

Peak times

The peak times are quite predictable; the peak landing times are followed by peak take-off times almost every day. This goes for the evenings too. A second runway for take-off or landing may be deployed during these peak time periods. Which runway is actually used depends on factors including air traffic volumes and weather conditions. In the week of 30 November – 6 December, we are expecting the following daily peaks:

Take-off:

  • between 09:20 and 11:00 in the morning;
  • between 20:20 and 21:20 in the evening.

Landing:

  • between 07:20 and 08:40 in the morning;
  • between 18:40 and 20:00 in the evening.

A look back at 16 – 22 November

This week, Schiphol saw an average of 462 flights per day. The majority of these flights took off from or landed on the Polderbaan and Kaagbaan runways. The Aalsmeerbaan Runway was mainly used as a second runway alongside the Kaagbaan Runway. The Buitenveldertbaan Runway was used as the main runway due to a strong westerly wind, and was deployed as a second runway for take-off on two occasions. There were two mornings during which the Schiphol-Oostbaan Runway was briefly used. This was due to changing weather conditions with a strong southwesterly wind.
