News: A look ahead at air traffic 28 September – 4 October 2020

Next week, we expect an average of 685 flights per day at Schiphol. This means that the number of flights is stabilising, with only slightly fewer than in previous weeks. This, together with a different distribution of flights over the course of the day, means that the expected number of peak times will also decrease. Starting from 28th September, three works projects will be carried out on the taxiways and entry/exit ways to the south of the Zwanenburgbaan Runway. It is likely that the Buitenveldertbaan Runway will be used more frequently as a second runway during the day at peak times. Download the full fact sheet here: bezoekbas.nl (Dutch only).

Fewer peak time periods

A second runway may be required at peak times. Which runway we use depends on factors such as the weather conditions, wind direction and runway availability. The Aalsmeerbaan and Zwanenburgbaan runways will be used more often as primary and second runways at peak times due to the Kaagbaan Runway being unavailable. In the week of 21–27 September, we expect the following peak times:

Take-off:

  • between 09:20 and 11:00 in the morning;
  • between 20:20 and 21:20 in the evening.

Landing:

  • between 07:20 and 08:40 in the morning;
  • between 18:40 and 20:00 in the evening.

A look back at 14 – 20 September

There was an average of 717 flights each day last week, fairly consistent with the prediction of 730 flights. There were fewer peak time periods than the week before due to a decline in the number of flights. Most air traffic took off from, or landed on the Kaagbaan Runway and the Polderbaan Runway. Maintenance and inspections on the Polderbaan Runway at the start of last week meant that the Zwanenburgbaan Runway was used as the main runway for two nights. The Aalsmeerbaan Runway was mainly used as a second runway.
