News: A look ahead at air traffic 17 – 23 August 2020

We expect an average of 780 flights per day at Schiphol next week. We also expect three periods of both peak take-off and peak landing times, spread over the day. An extra runway can be used during these peak time periods. The Zwanenburgbaan Runway is not available due to works. Which runway is used depends on factors such as the wind and weather conditions next week. Want to know more? Take a look at the fact sheet on the website bezoekbas.nl.

Second runway

Ideally, we use the Kaagbaan Runway and Polderbaan Runway as the main runway for take-off and landing. Because the Zwanenburgbaan Runway cannot be used next week, only the Aalsmeerbaan Runway and Buitenveldertbaan Runway are available as a potential second runways. These runways may occasionally be used as the main runway when the circumstances make this necessary.

Peak times

In the week 17 – 23 August, we expect the following daily peak times:

Take-off:

  • between 09:20 and 10:40 in the morning;
  • between 14:20 and 15:00 in the afternoon;
  • between 20:40 and 21:20 in the evening.

Landing:

  • between 07:20 and 08:20 in the morning;
  • between 13:00 and 13:40 in the afternoon;
  • between 18:40 and 20:00 in the evening.

A look back at 3 – 9 August

In the first week of August, we had an average of 740 flights per day – slightly less than the 760 flight predicted. This amounts to around 51% fewer flights than in the same week in 2019. The first peak time in the morning started earlier than expected. Predictions have been adjusted accordingly. Due to the increase in air traffic and the corresponding changes in flight times, every day saw a peak landing time followed by a peak take-off time. The Kaagbaan Runway had the most flights (42%), followed by the Polderbaan Runway (39%) and the Aalsmeerbaan Runway (9%). Take a look at the full report in the fact sheet on bezoekbas.nl.
